GLACE BAY, N.S. — She’s one of the most recognizable faces in Cape Breton music yet it took a worldwide pandemic for Jenn Sheppard to finally release her first solo album of original music.

And on Wednesday, it seems only appropriate that the longtime Savoy Theatre performer leads the first in-person event to be held at the Glace Bay venue in a long time.

“All the stars aligned and it just was the right time,” says Sheppard about the show that will feature the launching of her CD, “The Good Ground,” backed by a 12-piece band that includes some of Cape Breton’s top players along with a full horn section.

GLACE BAY, N.S. -

With some COVID-19 restrictions set to be lifted in just days in Nova Scotia, the Savoy Theatre in Cape Breton opened to hundreds for the first time in nearly two years on Wednesday.

There were a lot of nerves and a renewed sense of hope and optimism for patrons and performers.

Jenn Sheppard performed songs from her new album in front of hundreds last night.

Jewnn Sheppard has a plan...

“I want to live and work in Cape Breton for my whole life and I want my kids to feel that they can too so we work really hard to do whatever we have to do to stay here,” she says.

That determination, an openness to try new things and a mid-boggling work ethic has made Sheppard one of the most familiar faces on the local entertainment landscape. She sings with High Society, can been seen every December on the Christmas Daddies Telethon, has performed in Shake, Rattle ‘n Roll for Hospice, co-created and performed in Happy Ha Ha Holidaze, has just finished a run with the Cape Breton Summertime Revue and is gearing up for the upcoming return of “The Legends, Their Songs, Their Stories, Tribute to Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline and The Everly Brothers,” on September 17 at the Savoy Theatre.
